Report z Prague Eternal 2014
Dear players!
Welcome to the report from Prague Eternal 2014. Originaly, we wanted to bring you and online coverage, but unfortunetaly, the technical features of our site did not allow us to do that (no WiFi), so we at least bring you a little sum up of what had been going on during the Prague Eternal Weekend. The entry fee to all the scheduled tournaments was 600 Czk or 22 Euro. The whole thing started on Friday at eighteen o clock with legacy. There were almost 60 players participating and the field looked like this:
1. UWr Miracles – 10 players
2. RUG Delver – 8 players
3. ANT- 6 players
4. Death and Taxes – 5 players
5. Jund/Life From The Loam decks/Burn – 4 players
6. Others – 19 players
There was no Top 8 in this tournament, due to time issues of course and after swiss rounds the king of the hill was Ondřej Stráský with UWr Miracles. Congratulations!
The Legacy Main event started on Saturday at 10 o clock. There were 148 players participating and we thank every single one of them for their support. After 8 rounds of swiss the Top 8 was ready to battle. In the end there were only two players standing – Tomáš Vlček (UWr) from Czech Republic and Kai Thiele (ANT) from Germany. It was the german player who took home the championship, glory, fame and a playset of very nice Underground Seas (the prize for the winner, finalists decided to split thou) Congratulations! Intersted in Top 8 decklists? Check it out bellow!

We have all witnessed a huge piece of magic action on Saturday and when the day was done (around half past ten p.m.) there was not a single person on the site, who was not tired. Tired but exited thou, because we all knew what was about to come on Sunday.
Bam!!! Here we go! It is Sunday morning and that only means one thing. It means it is time to pull out the big guns and battle like men. Very rich men to be precise. Yes, it is time for Black Lotuses, Ancestrall Recals and walking in time! It is time for Prague Eternal Vintage Tournament!
Have you ever seen your appartment battling against your car? No? I have. Just take a look – the player on the left side of the table, the one with black bordered underground seas and black bordered power nine, his deck is as expensive as my appartment. And the one on the right, the one with foil japanese Polluted Deltas, that is my car – welcome to Vintage! I didnt have the chance to find out if my appartment is gonna beat the hell out of my car or the other way around, because I was gathering a little more information for you. So here we go.
There were 48 players participating in Sunday Vintage tournament. After six rounds of swiss the top 8 looked like this:

For those players, who did not fancy Vintage (or just happen to love their appartment too much to trade it for a vintage deck) there was a Sunday modern event prepared. There were 37 people playing and here are the Top 8 decklists:

In the end, the victourious player was Mark Vogl from Germany, who defeated Petr Sochůrek in the Finals. Mark was playing Melira Pod and Petr put his money on Merfolk (just a figure of speech, no deals involving money between the two finalists of course ). Dont forget to check out their decklists!
The modern finale was the last match of the day, so players had quite an audiance. Conratulations to Mark!
After the finale was done, main organizer of the Event, Jan „Zuzy“ Zuskač at last had some time to answer some of my questions:
Interview with Zuzy:
1. Hi Zuzy, maybe you would like you present yourself a bit to the players?Hi, I am Zuzy. I come from Příbram (Town in Czech Republic). I am 33 years old, I have a lovely wife and two beautiful children, son and a daughter. I work as a Manager of the Sales Department.
2. When and where did you first play Magic?
It was on a summer camp, and I started in 1995.
3. Where does your passion for eternal formats comes from?
I bought my first Power Nine eigh years ago and I found out, that there are no Vintage tournamets in Czech Republic. But I really wanted to play, so I started organizing Czech Vintage and Legacy series.
4. When did you first started considering organizing a big eternal event and how did the whole process from the thought to a tournament go?
It was in Nowember 2013 when I first got the idea. And I have been working on this project since February 2014. I did not stand alone thou. I coworked with Tomas Klimes and his shop Najáda.cz and my media partner was a CMUS.cz. I also got a big help from Invisio via technical support and I thank them for that.
5. The weekend is almost over. How did it go? Are you satisfied with the results?
Really, I dont know yet. But I guess I am satisfied. Friday was very good, we could even afford to increase the prizepool. Saturday legacy was very good too, the highlander on the other hand was a disapointment (only 24 players). Sunday Vintage was ok, we had 42 players, which makes it the biggest Vintage tournament ever in Czech Republic. The modern tournaent was the biggest disapoitment , only 35 players. We expected around 60.
6. What are the plans for future? Are you already planning next season?
Well I have a lot of plans into the future. I gotta take my wife to holiday, play with my children and things like that But as far as Magic is concerned I think it is gonna be possible for us to organize a similar kind of tournament, and meaby even sooner than in one year.
7. Did you play yourself? How did you do?
I thougt I will be able to play on Friday, but because of the duties of the organizer, I could not. I did play in the Saturday legacy event, but I had dropped after going 2:1, because I really wanted to play my beloved Vintage. I played a Vintage on Sunday, but I went 3:3. It is kinda complicated for me to play, while organizing a tournament, because I have a lot on my mind, you know, the constant buzz in your head. So meaby, while thinking about it, next time, instead of organizing the whole thing, I will take my wife for a holiday to a location with good Vintage tournament aroud. Than I will be able to play with no worries
8. Have you ever used the fact that you are an organizer to gain edge during the tournament? Call off a judge or things like that?
I would not dare to do that, because Jara Karban, the best head judge in Czech Republic would rip my balls of for it.
9. Do you have any favorite deck of yours?
No, not really, I have a plenty of cards so I try to play a different deck every tournament. Which is kinda problem, because I dont get to plytest with one deck. But I play for fun and I like it this way.
10. Besides organizer and a player, you are also a collector. Which card in your collection do you value the most?
I collect Japanese Foils. So I guess my favorite cards are (all in foil and Japanese) Jace, the Mind Sculptor, Flooded Strand and Brainstorm. But I have pretty much every card.
11. Anything to say to the players?
Definitely. I would like to thank so much to everybody who attended, it wouldnt be possible to organize such a great weekend of Magic without you- players. Thank you very much and hopefully see you soon!
Well guys, that is pretty much it! It was an awsome weekend full of Magic in a beautiful city. If you have never been to Prague, you definitely have to come and find out, if the rumours of its beauty were true. So meaby the next series of Prague Eternal could be a good chance. Hopefully, see you there. Thank you guys for your support!
P.S: In case you don know, Vintage just entered MTGO. So if you are hungry for some more decklists, there are lots to find online.
ZUZY and his team.
